Burger

Burger is our other "baby". He is our 3 1/2 year old labradoodle. If he had a voice we think it would be like Goofy (as in Disney). He is super sweet and an 80 pound lap dog. How has he been handling the new baby? Well at first he ignored her. Now he is into walking by and licking her. When she cries he will go stand by her bassinet. I think it is his instinctive way of calling our attention to her, like "hey, this tiny helpless human needs something" (in Goofy's voice).

I put together Harlow's play gym today so she could have something to look at with her new found alert-ness. Of course Bugs had to try it out. Burger was also trying to eat the little dangly animals, good thing they are well attached. The three of them are certainly keeping me entertained during my maternity leave.

Bugs

Bugs (named after the bunny) is our cat that I rescued a few years ago while in PA school (well really my friend Tina rescued him and somehow I ended up with him). He is sort of a trouble maker, but also really sweet. I feel bad for him since the baby is here because now at night we banish him to the basement. We are terrified he will get in the bassinet with the baby and sit on her head or something. I wonder why we would think that...

Bugs in the bounce seat

and...bugs in the bassinet

(none of these pictures were posed, all caught in the act with my iPhone camera).

First Bath

It took some convincing for Mark in order to give Harlow a bath. It didn't seem natural to him to do something she would hate, but I persuaded him when I reminded him about all that icky, tarry, meconium she had stuck to her butt the first couple days of life. She promptly peed on Mark after he wrapped her up in a towel. After her second bath, she peed AND pooped on him and then we proceeded to hose her off in the sink. Mark sure came a long ways from not wanting to give her a bath to holding her over the sink while I sprayed her!

More Demo

While my mom was busy being a grandma (cooking, cleaning, baby snuggling) my dad got some more demo work done on the house. They left today, but will be back in two weeks. While they are gone some of the finishing work will get done as well as sanding of the hardwoods on the main floor and the stairs. Paint will come sometime after that. The space is really opening up with all those walls gone! Here are some more progress photos:

And more progress...I CAN open my eyes...

She's here!

Harlow Louise Hekman. The whole 7 pounds 4 ounces of her were born pretty uneventfully on 02.21.2012 at 2:54 am. Mark and I are relishing at being new parents. Welcome to the world Harlow!

My parents have been here all week helping with the baby. The Legend (or grandpa legend as we now call him) has been doing some work on the house too. My goal is to get over there this weekend and take and post some pictures. Somehow my life has gotten consumed with something else this week though ;-)

Outside of the house

Realized there wasn't a picture of the outside of the house on here. Notice how it is up on a hill. Nice for getting more channels over the air (since why would you buy cable for a "vacation home", and also for surveying the land as my dad says.

The kitchen demo is complete. Both my parents will be back next weekend to start to put it back together...oh wait, really they are going to be here for the birth of their first grandchild!

Progress

Wednesday was the closing on the house so my dad (aka Wayne, aka The Legend) has been in town since then. Project number one is The Kitchen. Mark and my dad have been working hard on trying to get all the demo done this weekend. Here are some "before" and "durings" (we are FAR from any after pics)!

Kitchen progress:
Project "Bomb that kitchen"

My contribution today: it's hard to tell from the picture but there was some retro wallpaper all in the hall before but it all came down like a charm.

AND...pregnancy progress: Due Date in 9 days.

Still a lot of work but progress was made. Lesson from today. Demo is MESSY!
