TWO MONTHS

Violet is two months old today. She had her check up and is a healthy 12 lb 10 oz (79%) and 23 inches long (72%). She is the same length Harlow was but a few ounces heavier! Girl likes to eat. She is sleeping better and just waking up twice to eat and go back to sleep. She just started to smile and coo in the last week or so, but she still usually has a pretty serious face :-). Here are her two month pics!

Violet Christmas

I just got Violet one gift this year, I couldn't resist this when I saw at Toys R Us since it is named 'Violet' plus it looks pretty entertaining and the age on it starts at 6 months (have you noticed 95% of toys are marked '3 and up', does anyone follow that recommendation!?). Anyway, Violet will be six months before we know it, it's already her two month bday tomorrow! *sniff*

Harlow Christmas

'Santa' just got Harlow a stocking this year since she is still a bit young to know the difference this year and she will get plenty of gifts from all her wonderful extended family. She does recognize Santa in books and such, calls him 'nanta', but doesn't get the whole down the chimney thing. In Harlow's stocking this year is a Rocktivity microphone that looked fun, a little dollar bin Elmo pop up book, and one of those figurines from the craft store (she loves those things and doesn't have a monkey yet). Not pictured, I also got her some bath toys and bubble bath. She loves Buuuubo's!

weird weather

Yesterday when this photo was taken it was 75 degrees (in December) and today we are bracing ourselves for an ice storm with a high of 32 tomorrow. Strange. But I guess being from Michigan, I am used to this sort of thing.

Holiday Spirit

This is the best time of the year to be on maternity leave! I put up our (tabletop/toddler proof) Christmas tree this week and have been doing lots of shopping. Online shopping is the perfect nap time activity :-) Since I was feeling in the Christmas spirit, I put some Christmas PJ's on the girls and we had a little photo shoot.

Violet hasn't quite started smiling yet. I'm looking foward to that. But, I can't imagine trying to get a photo with them both smiling/looking at the same time!

Thanks

First thanksgiving as a family of 4, and so happy to have both my brothers, sister in law, and parents in town for it.
It is like a light has switched on in Violet this week, she has decided she DOESN'T need to eat every two hours (more like 3 or 4) and actually slept for FiVE un interrupted hours last night. I am thankful for that!

one month

I can't believe Violet is already one month old. Time goes by faster with the second one!

Leaves and Elmo

Things Harlow is into right now: The big pile of leaves outside and Elmo. She says "melmo" and it's pretty adorable. It's not adorable when she constantly points to the TV though and saying (whining) "melmo melmo melmo". She gets mad too when other segments without Elmo are on first...that puppet should have his OWN show!

Violet 5 days new

Here are some photos I took of Violet when she was 5 days old. She has already grown out of her newborn clothes and is filling out. It goes by too fast!

Sisters

Here are the pics from Harlow meeting Violet for the first time at the hospital. She was so cute, she just kinda stared, touched her gently and didn't want to get down from the chair. It hasn't been all sweet since then though, she is still adjusting a bit to her little sister, but seems to be doing better in the jealousy and "being gentle" department. I hope they will grow up to be great friends!

Halloween part two

Harlow dressed as Bat Girl for Halloween this year. We found out that Halloween with little ones is so much fun and that Harlow loves candy (duh)! She tried smarties (HUGE hit) and M&M's. She also completely "got" the concept of trick or treating which I wasn't sure she would. We just visited a couple neighbors houses, including little "Elvis" below.
Old Salem Trick or Treat with Grandpa (Papa) and Unle Luke

Harlow wouldn't wear the mask, but Papa would!

Smarties!

Beautiful fall night
Harlow and her buddy

The four of us had a blast Trick or Treating. Mark came right from work, so he is dressed as a Bassoon Professor :-)

Halloween part one

For Halloween Violet dressed as a glow worm. You know that green light up toy us 80's children all had?

Violet Sky

Violet Sky Hekman decided to come a bit early and arrived at 3:48pm on October 19th weighing 8 lbs 6 oz and 20 in long. Mark and I and big sister Harlow are all thrilled she is here! Since Mark is a stay at home dad right now, we are going to try to make the most of my maternity leave and all being home together (with maybe some dissertation work (mark) and some studying for my recertification exam (me) on the side).

Happy October!

I am so happy it is October for more than just the obvious.  I love the cooler weather, fall decorations, and of course all things PUMPKIN! Here is Harlow at the (great) pumpkin patch we found this past weekend.

Yoga

Mark has gotten some bassoon jobs during the week and it has given me an excuse to take some days off and spend them with my girl!
Today we did some afternoon yoga:
