When I was 7 months pregnant with their first grandchild my parents bought a "project" a mile from our house but 700 miles from theirs. This blog chronicles the beginnings of their renovation and of the beginnings of our adventure into parenthood.

packing
I'm starting to think about packing for the (soon!) upcoming trip to michigan. Although we have made the drive so many times we could do it in our sleep, we have never done it as a family of 4 (me, mark, harlow and of course burger). So far on my list is...dog crate, porta crib, of course the Boppy, the BOB, the Bjorn, the Bumbo, and we have decided we can not live without the GIANT blue swing! Phew, that's a lot of large items.
BUT...it is the small items that are the most fun. Harlow will be seeing a lot of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who are expecting her to look cute! Here are some mix and match items I have packed...
other essentials for michigan include sweatshirt for cool nights, "summer" pajamas, and of course LOTS of onesies. This one in particular has the shape of michigan on it if you look closely.

clothes
Luckily I had quite a few handmedowns from our great friends daughter but I have had to buy some stuff because the seasons are a bit off since she was born in May. I have had the hardest time finding things that are cute, not ALL pink and not so, how can I say it...cheesy? I have resorted to the boys section (gasp!) and now to the older girl clothes and going for the long t-shirt with leggings look.
Here is her in her boys section sweatshirt.
I did do something I thought I would never do yesterday. I bought Harlow some hair 'accessories'. They are from Etsy so I have to wait, but will post some pics when they arrive. In the mean time, here is here first experience with a hair bow.(photo via instagram, my new favorite social media). follow me: alizahek

more kitchen work
Slowly the kitchen is getting there. Since The Legend is only there periodically, it's going to get done a little at a time.
This is how the project began. If you have ever bought anything from IKEA, you know how they felt looking at ALL those pieces.
Remember what this looked like before?
stove area progress...
and remember what this area looked like before?
and the littlest helper...
still far from the "after" photos, but it's been fun seeing it coming together (especially since I'm not doing any of the work, ha. Ok, baby is crying, so no time to figure out why my layout is funky...I'm not too savy with this blog, you get the point.
